In recent years, Welp Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. has accumulated a lot of experience and insights in the main process of sludge treatment and disposal, as well as in the restoration of black and odorous water bodies. At the 11th Water Industry Hotspot Forum in 2017, executives from Welp Environmental Protection analyzed the pain points of the sludge industry and shared some product innovations made by Welp Environmental Protection with the attendees

At present, there are three main problems in China, one is consistent policies, the other is issues related to policies and systems, and there is also a crucial need for breakthroughs in common technologies and equipment. In recent years, Welp Environmental Protection has been engaged in technical research and industrial development in the field of sewage sludge treatment and disposal. Today, we will analyze some pain points and hot issues in this industry, and provide some explanations from our perspective. Then, we will share with you some of the technological product development and innovation we have done. This time there are mainly two main lines, one is the main process of sewage treatment and disposal, and the second is the content of black and odorous water body restoration.

Sludge treatment and disposal

In the treatment and disposal of sludge, there are mainly several stages, including sedimentation, concentration, dewatering, stabilization, conditioning, drying, and the final disposal of sludge resources. In terms of sedimentation, there are techniques such as horizontal flow sedimentation, auxiliary flow sedimentation, vertical flow sedimentation, and high-efficiency sedimentation. The existing sedimentation tanks have fixed inlet and outlet points. During operation, water flows continuously, and we hope that the flow of water is as stable as possible, laminar flow rather than steady flow. In actual work, it is not an ideal state, which results in its overall efficiency not being as high as we theoretically believe.

In the entire sewage treatment plant, the sedimentation tank occupies a relatively large area, and with the upgrading and transformation of our water bodies, there are also requirements for reducing suspended solids. If this aspect is improved, it will be very valuable for the entire industry. This year, in collaboration with Tongji University, we have launched a static flow sedimentation tank. The characteristic of this sedimentation tank is that the inlet and outlet are collected at points. Throughout the operation of the sedimentation tank, it appears that the water at each point is static, so the water in this tank is equivalent to static sedimentation, and the mud only flows downwards. This is a significant breakthrough in technology, which should contribute to the accumulation of technology and innovation in the entire industry.

concentrate

Many sewage treatment plants used to use gravity concentration, but now there are also many small plants that do not build gravity concentration tanks for various reasons. The existing concentration technologies include centrifugal concentration, gravity concentration, belt concentration, and drum concentration. The concentration we need is not just limited to a level of 97% to 95%, but we hope that the degree of concentration can be further reduced to 93% or even 90%. Because many conditions for deep dehydration into mud hope to achieve an effect of 90% or 93%; This concentration is also required for our anaerobic digestion front-end.

dehydration

The conventional meaning of dewatering is to reduce the moisture content of sludge to around 80%. Nowadays, deep dewatering is being carried out to reduce it to 80%. For many small and medium-sized sewage treatment plants, it is unrealistic and costly to dispose of all the sludge completely. In sludge dewatering, there are many types of dewatering equipment, among which the most commonly used ones in the industry are centrifuges, core machines, and disc wheel (sound) thickeners. During this year, Wilp made significant modifications to the stacked screw sludge dewatering machine.

The key to the stacked screw sludge dewatering machine is the spiral shaft and dynamic fixing ring. The main problem at present is how to improve its service life. We have increased the surface hardness of the machine itself, sprayed wear-resistant materials on the surface, and welded high hardness wear-resistant metal materials to ensure its service life can be 7 to 8 years. The same applies to dynamic and stationary rings, mainly to improve stability. Most of the stacked screw sludge dewatering machines use traditional dynamic fixed rings, while we use four corner rings, which have much better strength than the original structure. At the same time, in terms of material, we use our own high-strength steel to ensure stability during use.

At the same time, we will also encounter many corrosive situations, so we have launched CFRP carbon fiber anti-corrosion materials. The product performance is stable and has been standardized and serialized. We have continuously summarized and launched standard, non machine, and fruit and vegetable specific products. At the same time, we cooperate with other IoT companies to mine equipment and on-site usage data from within the enterprise, technology centers, and service centers through IoT means, providing data support for further optimization and upgrading of products.

Stabilization

In terms of stabilizing sludge, our company has not done much work in this area, but Tongji Environment has very good ideas for hydrothermal and anaerobic digestion. Another aspect is our company's high drying or hot drying of sludge, both of which are aimed at removing as much water as possible from the sludge. From a market perspective, people tend to choose high temperature dehydration in more places, and the market has its own reasons. The high-pressure elastic press machine we have launched provides the industry with a second option besides the high-pressure diaphragm machine, which can also be called the best choice.

Black and odorous water restoration

We have also done some work in the restoration of black and odorous water bodies, such as intercepting pollution and dredging. In terms of dredging, we use mechanical methods to reduce the moisture content to below 40%. The process of cooperative dredging is fast and efficient, and our high-pressure press can also be used in this process.

In addition, Welp Environmental Protection has recently collaborated with German universities and Tongji University to develop a new water remediation technology - the local diatom water remediation technology. Diatoms are currently the species that provide the most oxygen in the world, accounting for 40% of the Earth's oxygen supply. We use targeted cultivation of diatoms to promote their massive reproduction in water bodies, providing oxygen to planktonic organisms and other aquatic organisms in the water, so that the water can slowly recover. Diatoms are also very helpful for the remediation of nitrogen and phosphorus in water bodies. Using diatoms for water restoration is safe, efficient, and economical.
